House Energy & Commerce Committee Advances Bill to Erase Peoples’ Health Care Benefits & Shift Costs onto States

May 14, 2025

Milwaukee, WI - Today, the US House Energy & Commerce Committee marked up its budget reconciliation bill, advancing devastating policies that will harm working people, blow a hole in state budgets, and stall local investments and economies, all to fund tax breaks for the rich and corporations.

Fair Share America Executive Director Kristen Crowell released the following statement:

“These members of Congress could have chosen to protect working families instead of further enriching the ultra-wealthy; they could have chosen to stand up for their constituents, rather than folding to their leadership and Donald Trump,” said Fair Share America Executive Director Kristen Crowell. “They have pushed ahead with a dangerous plan that would shift tremendous burdens onto state governments and onto families who are already struggling to afford the skyrocketing cost of health care. Make no mistake, this bill cuts health benefits for millions of working people. We deserve better.”
