Fair Share America Executive Director Kristen Crowell took to social media today to decry reports of the Social Security Administration, which delivers Americans’ well-earned Social Security checks, breaking down because of ill-advised DOGE layoffs.

“Congress has tried to tell us they aren’t coming for Social Security, but Musk and DOGE are weakening the system by making it harder to get the checks we have earned. Trump and Musk know that taking money from Social security means more for them and their rich friends. Who cares if the system they don’t need functions, right?" 

“PS: The American Public cares and we will not be silent.”

Polling shows that not only do the vast majority of Americans support Social Security (79 percent), they also believe it needs more funding not less. Further, they also know they have earned Social Security through years of their own hard work.

Earlier today, hundreds of people turned out at the U.S. Capitol to rally against cuts to Social Security, Medicaid, Medicare (equally as popular among American voters as Social Security), nutrition assistance, public education, veterans’ health care, and more in order to hand out more tax cuts to billionaires and big corporations. 

They’ve also been making their voices heard in their own congressional districts, demanding their elected representatives in Congress put them - the constituents - over rich donors.
